成軍超過四十年，發行超過五十張專輯，由他們委託、或是提獻給克羅諾斯四重奏的當代作品為數850首以上。除了葛萊美獎之外，他們還曾贏得流行音樂獎與艾維‧費雪獎的肯定。克羅諾斯四重奏向來都將推廣當代音樂視為己任，其中與他們合作最密切的都屬今年即將歡度八十大壽的美國「低限主義」大師級作曲家泰瑞‧萊利，至今，克羅諾斯一共委託萊利為他們創作了27首作品，小提琴家大衛‧哈靈頓是克羅諾斯四重奏的創辦人與藝術總監，他曾感性地說， 瘋狂暴力的世界，萊利的音樂是一股沛然莫之能御的和平力量，同時也為當代音樂家樹立高規格的典范。
萊利與克羅諾斯四重奏的合作關係超過卅五年，這套選輯可以視為他們共同戮力打造的里程碑。萊利的音樂元素幾乎已經成為克羅諾斯四重奏的語匯詞庫，而萊利也認為，每次與克羅諾斯四重奏合作的起點，往往都是源自於哈靈頓與他交換創意的對談。「每次會談之后我都感到無比興奮」，萊利表示，「飽滿的能量驅使我寫下旋律與節奏。」哈靈頓天生具有扮演催化劑的才華，這也是克羅諾斯四重奏在過去四十年里，能夠透過源源不絕的創意，激發重大影響力的重要關鍵
