柯普蘭（Copland）：美國現代作曲家，深受新古典主義的影響而偏好形式簡單、旋律表達自然的音樂風格。
《比利小子（芭蕾音樂）》作品作于1938年。這是根據美國西南部的一個傳說改編的。音樂上，柯普蘭大量引用民間歌曲的音調，引入爵士音樂的節奏，突出鄉村的氣息，完全是在勾畫一幅幅的風俗畫面。尤其是第二部分的音樂，快速、小步舞曲似的節奏，夾雜了連續的幾首西部音樂主題，恰到好處地使用著打擊樂器，很自然地讓人聯想到馬蹄和牛群。第四部分，定音鼓和小號表現著激烈的槍戰場面——這種具有明確指向性的樂段讓情節得到了豐富而直接的展現……
