約翰•菲利普•蘇沙（John Philip Sousa）被稱為美國“進行曲之王”，其最大貢獻在于他自己組織職業的管樂團將管樂帶入了美國人民的生活之中。他26歲（1880年）開始擔任“The U.S. Marine Band”（美國海軍陸戰隊樂隊）的指揮，后來自己組織樂團“The Sousa Professional Band”到美國、歐洲演出，在各級學校推廣管樂教育，并且深入社區娛樂大眾。
