由著名女高音凱瑟琳•芭特爾（Kathleen Battle）演唱，約翰•納爾遜指揮英國室內(nèi)樂團演奏灌錄的《亨德爾：瑟蜜蕾》，2009年的《企鵝古典唱片指南》中推薦為三星。
繼卡里西米和許茨以后，整個巴洛克時期（1600-1750）最杰出的清唱劇大師當數(shù)英籍德國作曲家亨德爾（George Frideric Handel，1685-1759）。亨德爾的創(chuàng)作主要是歌劇和清唱劇。亨德爾一生共創(chuàng)作了32部清唱劇，大部分都是以圣經(jīng)故事為題材。比較有影響，時至今日還經(jīng)常上演的有：《掃羅》、《以色列人在埃及》、《彌賽亞》、《參孫》、《猶大•瑪可白》、《約書亞》和《所羅門》。這套唱片收錄的《瑟蜜蕾》也是作曲家非常有代表性的作品。
2009年是作曲家亨德爾逝世250周年，各家唱片公司無不鉚足了勁，將錄音史上重要的亨德爾作品重新整理上市。亨德爾1711年定居英國，1727年歸化為英國公民之后，總計在英國居住49年，其間，他將倫敦打造成了最有音樂氣息的都市之一，雖然他最受歡迎的是由于喬治一世國王的因素而于1717年所譜寫的《水上音樂》，然而清唱劇與巴洛克歌劇才是最能呈現(xiàn)亨德爾作曲特長的重點。
