保羅?麥克里希指揮的《亨德爾：掃羅》，2009年的《企鵝古典唱片指南》中評鑒三星。
繼卡里西米和許茨以后，整個巴洛克時期（1600-1750）最杰出的清唱劇大師當數(shù)英籍德國作曲家亨德爾（George Frideric Handel，1685-1759）。亨德爾的創(chuàng)作主要是歌劇和清唱劇。亨德爾一生共創(chuàng)作了32部清唱劇，大部分都是以圣經(jīng)故事為題材。比較有影響，時至今日還經(jīng)常上演的有《掃羅》、《以色列人在埃及》、《彌賽亞》、《參孫》、《猶大?瑪可白》、《約書亞》和《所羅門》。
2009年英國古典音樂界的一件大事就是紀念著名巴洛克音樂大師亨德爾去世250周年。為緬懷這位大師對巴洛克音樂做出的杰出貢獻，我們只有不斷去聆聽他的音樂，去感受他帶給我們的精神撫慰。
指揮家兼大提琴家保羅?麥克里希（Paul McCreesh），1960年5月24日出生于英國倫敦，在曼徹斯特大學念書的時候就創(chuàng)辦演奏室內樂合唱團與古樂器的小型樂團，1982年擴編為嘉布里耶利合奏團（Gabrieli Consort & Players），以演奏文藝復興與巴洛克時期作品為主。由于保羅?麥克里希對十七八世紀音樂的深入研究和多次演奏試驗，擴編后的嘉布里耶利合奏團除演出文藝復興與巴洛克時代作品外，也涉獵18世紀“變革”時期的音樂作品。他們的演奏往往能為作品注入全新而且豐富的創(chuàng)造力與情感，因此在國際樂壇聲名鵲起。這套由Archiv唱片公司發(fā)行的CD版本《亨德爾：掃羅》，是保羅?麥克里希指揮灌錄的經(jīng)典演繹。
